The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE), College of
Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign is searching to fill the position of Teaching Faculty - Open Rank - Technical Systems Management - ABE. This position is a nine-month, non-tenure-track teaching faculty appointment with open rank. The position reports to the ABE Department Head and works collaboratively with faculty and staff in ABE and other units in the College of ACES, and the College of Engineering.

Departmental Description:

The ABE department at the University of Illinois includes 20 full-time faculty members involved in teaching, research and extension. It houses two academic programs, Agricultural and Biological Engineering and Technical Systems Management with undergraduate and graduate degrees offered in each. Faculty members have research activities in bioenvironmental engineering, biological engineering, food and bioprocess engineering, off-road equipment engineering, and soil and water resources engineering. Departmental extension programs include agricultural waste management, nutrient management planning, agricultural safety and health, soil and water resources engineering and chemical/pesticide application training. Major Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will coordinate and teach TSM courses offered through ABE to students in a variety of programs within and outside the College of ACES. These courses include topics of materials and construction systems, metallurgy and welding processes, agro-industrial electrification, and an introduction to technical systems in agriculture. Course modules emphasize the development of hands-on technical and field skills, and problem-solving methods. The successful candidate will also be expected to advise students and student organizations in ABE.

Qualifications:

Initial appointments are typically at the rank of Instructor, Lecturer, or Teaching Assistant Professor, with the possibility of promotion to the ranks of Senior Instructor, Senior Lecturer, or Teaching Associate Professor and Teaching Professor. Senior-level appointments are available for candidates with significant additional experience, stature, and demonstrated teaching excellence.

Applicants for Instructor positions must have at minimum a master's degree in Biosystems Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Technology Systems, Construction Management, Agricultural Education or a closely related discipline; applicants for Lecturer or for Teaching Faculty positions (all ranks) must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Biosystems Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Technology Systems, Construction Management, Agricultural Education or a closely related discipline; Experience and expertise teaching hands-on shop and field skills is also necessary. Candidates must have excellent speaking and writing skills, an ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate level, and a desire to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.

Employment Conditions and Proposed Start Date:

The position is to be filled and is proposed to start by August 16 th , 2017, or as soon thereafter as a qualified candidate is available. This nine-month position is a renewal term, non-tenure track appointment in ABE.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
