The department of International Student and Scholar Services seeks applicants for two International Services Assistant (Program Assistant 1), UCP 3 positions. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of International Student and Scholar Services, the International Services Assistants provide responsible administrative support for SEVIS data maintenance and coordinate student immigration documents.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • As a Designated School Official/Alternate Responsible Officer, assists supervisor to ensure SEVIS data integrity for international students and scholars on F and J visas at the University. This includes responsibility to monitor and handle SEVIS alerts, OPT updates, basic initial I-20 and DS-2019 forms, and arrivals and departures of international students and scholars, making adjustments to accommodate priority needs.
  • May assist in planning and arrangements for ISSS events and programs, as necessary.
  • Communicates with international students and scholars, as well as UConn staff and faculty, to ensure that SEVIS reporting and data requirements are met.
  • Serves as a resource to students and staff on matters relating to administrative procedures and on matters relating to SEVIS data maintenance, OPT information updates, initial I-20 procedures and processing arrivals and departures.
  • Processes and maintains necessary paperwork, records and files to support program with regards to assigned areas in SEVIS data administration.
  • Acts for the supervisor/administrator in matters of administrative detail.
  • Assists in preparation of immigration paperwork; responsible for accurate data entries and verification to maintain data accuracy in respective databases.
  • Assembles data, writes and/or edits reports, requiring a special knowledge of subject area.
  • May coordinate some specialized non-SEVIS aspects of the program.
  • Maintains a collection of resource materials and program information in the assigned areas.
  • May perform office support function, including coverage of front desk as needed.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. At least one year of full-time experience in a responsible administrative support position, which demonstrates knowledge of administrative methods for dealing with a high volume of data with time sensitive deadlines.
  3. Ability to work independently and regularly exercise judgment regarding administrative detail and procedures.
  4. Ability to provide entry-level program support.
  5. Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  6. Good writing and communications skills.
  7. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to perform DSO/ARO responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience working in a higher education setting with international students/scholars.
  2. Experience working with confidential and/or legal information.
  3. Experience studying, working or living abroad.
  4. Second language proficiency.
  5. Experience using PeopleSoft or TerraDotta for batch processing.
  6. Experience utilizing SEVIS to maintain student/exchange visitor records.
  7. Advanced skills with Microsoft Office.

Appointment Terms

This is a full-time, permanent 12-month position and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
