Required Qualifications: M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree. Board Certified in Ophthalmology and eligible for or have a license to practice medicine in New York State. Prior experience in a leadership position. Must be eligible for a senior faculty appointment in accordance with the criteria established by the School of Medicine for appointment, promotion and tenure ( https://medicine.stonybrookmedicine.edu/facultysenate/committees/apt ).
Preferred Qualifications: Strong academic credentials; a training track record that documents a commitment to medical education and mentoring of young faculty and fellows; experience with the management of a complex clinical practice within a medical center setting and in the oversight of clinical, educational and research budgets; possess the ability to establish effective operational practices that create an environment that supports the missions of the department. Demonstrate the highest level of ethical conduct and a commitment to diversity; possess a track record of recruiting and retaining outstanding clinical, educational and research (basic and translational) faculty; strong interpersonal and communication skills; a demonstrated ability to provide leadership within a complex organization; demonstrated experience in budgetary and personnel management is strongly preferred. A track record of successful extramural funding and scholarly accomplishment is also desirable.
Responsibilities & Requirements: The Chair has overall responsibility for advancing the clinical, educational and research missions of the Department.
Special Notes: Eligibility for tenure will be based upon applicants' qualifications and experience. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date: September 01, 2017.
