The Office for Faculty Advancement seeks an experienced, tenured faculty member to serve as Assistant Provost for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development. The candidate selected for this position will be responsible for faculty employee human resources on behalf of the Provost's Office. The selected candidate will be the primary University "intake officer" for faculty employee concerns, grievances, and interventions.

The successful candidate must maintain expertise in regulations and policies governing faculty appointment, promotion and tenure, and faculty disciplinary procedures and provide definitive and accurate guidance and advice in a timely manner to all campus constituencies, including individual faculty employees, deans and chairs/directors, the Office for Institutional Diversity, Human Resources, Legal Counsel, Equal Opportunity and Institutional Equity, the Provost, and other units within Academic Excellence.

Qualified candidates must hold the rank of tenured associate professor or above in any College, and faculty members on any appointment period (9-, 10-, 11-, or 12-month) are eligible to apply. A minimum of five years of administrative experience (such as department chair, associate dean, program director, or other positions that involve responsibility for planning, supervision of staff, mediation skills, and handling sensitive personnel matters) is required.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

Candidates must demonstrate very strong interpersonal skills, especially when handling potentially stressful work situations involving aggrieved or otherwise distressed faculty employees, staff members, and students. The successful candidate must handle information of a highly sensitive and confidential nature, therefore utmost discretion must be maintained in all personnel matters.
