This OPS job posting is unique to Peer Tutoring for CARE (Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement). Peer tutors support students' learning by strengthening a wide variety of educational skills among the students with whom they interact. Tutoring is a rewarding activity in which tutors help students to learn to better help themselves, both for courses in which they are currently enrolled and for their future academic endeavors. Tutoring may be conducted one-on-one, in small or large groups, by appointment, or on a walk-in basis. All tutors are expected to complete CRLA Certification upon hiring. Strong academic, interpersonal, and communication skills are required. Tutors must have at least a 3.0 GPA in all college-level coursework completed and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 or higher in their academic area of tutoring. It is extremely important that you create and attach a basic resume to this application that outlines a) any advanced degrees that you may have already accomplished (e.g. Associates Degree), b) your major or program of study and what year you are in your degree program (Freshman, Sophomore, etc.), and c) the number of hours completed, relevant courses that you have taken, all part-time and summer jobs, internships or co-op experiences.
A high school diploma or equivalent and some college coursework. Strong academic, interpersonal, and communication skills are required. Ability to complete CRLA (College Reading & Learning Association) Certification upon hire.
Anticipated Salary Range
Minimum of $8.10 per hour, effective 1/1/17 for new minimum wage requirements.
