Design and Publications Manager
Washington & Jefferson College is seeking applications for a design & publications manager. This exciting opportunity focuses primarily on graphic design for print but also includes a wide range of responsibilities such as brand management and expansion, copyediting and fact checking, illustration/photography/videography, project management, and publication archiving for academic and administrative departments throughout the College. This person in this generalist role will design, edit, and produce various College marketing, development, recruiting, and support materials ranging from on-campus digital billboards and printed brochures to online ads, videos, and PowerPoint presentations. This position entails a mix of production and original design projects and the conception to completion management of those projects.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field, and an online portfolio highlighting visual and written work; 3 to 5 years design experience; Experience creating specifications for vendors, creating files for print and Web, and attending press checks; Vendor management and project bidding experience is required; digital photography, videography, editing and archiving; generating marketing copy including headlines and calls to action; copyediting; knowledge of project management systems is a plus.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the College community, from students to the president and senior staff; High level of skill with graphic design in the Mac platform, including: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge, Acrobat Pro, Flash and iMovie and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products; Must be highly creative, self-motivated; Have the ability to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects and deadlines. Familiarity with ADA compliance standards is preferred.
