Parking Enforcement Officer
The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is accepting applications for a Parking Enforcement Officer in the Office of Public Safety. The PEO is responsible for patrolling restricted parking zones, either on foot or by golf cart, marking vehicles, observing vehicles, determining conformity with parking ordinances. Responsible for locating abandoned autos by reviewing reports and citizen complaints and through patrol activities; establishing through assessment and inquiry that vehicles are, in fact, abandoned. Required to mark vehicles as well as pavement; leave warnings on vehicles; notify last registered owner; arrange for vehicle to be towed as necessary. Serve as Public Safety Security officer (Parking Enforcement Officer) for the purpose of observation /reporting suspicious activities/criminal activity only, the PEO will not confront suspicious persons nor become involved in potentially dangerous situations. PEO will patrol assigned parking areas to issue citations for vehicles in violation of Citadel parking regulations. Performs computer data input for daily activities, performs routine and repetitive duties as prescribed by the Director of Public Safety.
The PEO works outdoors during all weather conditions and will be called upon to work shift work as well as communicate effectively via department radio communications system. The employee must successfully complete The Citadel field training for State Security Officers. Much overtime is required during the academic year. The PEO will be called upon to provide facts concerning ticketing a violator during the appeal/adjudication process. Must be trustworthy and punctual. In addition to possible night time hours and or a combination of both, the PEO must be able to adapt to ever changing climate conditions. The PEO is required to maintain and have all assigned equipment available to protect their person from exposure to extreme elements.
A high school diploma or GED certificate or equivalency is mandatory. Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal format for the purpose of interacting with vehicle operators cited. Must be familiar with basic computer operation as well as other office equipment. Must be capable of remaining alert with the possibility of being on feet for eight hour shifts. These skills may have been acquired through education, specific previously held positions and life experiences. Must have the ability to work under general supervision performing routine parking enforcement control and vehicle removal (towing) when necessary. The PEO must possess a current South Carolina driver’s license upon employment and a working knowledge of parking practices and procedures is required.
Prior employment with a police department working as a PEO is preferable but not necessary. Any military or related experience would be desirable. Past experience as a PEO is preferable.
