Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The NCCU School of Education offers undergraduate, graduate, licensure and professional development programs. The School of Education offers traditional, classroom-based instruction as well as instruction via the internet and teleconferencing. Faculty and staff bring diverse knowledge and experience, provide students with a unique learning experience; teach in small classroom size for easier access to each other and their instructors; and employ the latest technology.
Primary Purpose of Position
This faculty member will be responsible for providing academic instruction to Curriculum and Instruction undergraduate and graduate students and will teach on-campus and online undergraduate and graduate students in the Curriculum and Instruction Department, supervise students, and advise students, in addition to participating in scholarly activities and service to the University.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The successful candidate will have specific experience and knowledge in teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses and clinical supervision in Special Education with an emphasis in visual impairment. Candidates should be able to demonstrate potential for research, scholarly work, and service/community. Excellent verbal and written skills are a must.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Special Education or a related field with primary specialization in visual impairment. Candidates who are ABD will also be considered. Candidate must have a valid teaching license in visual impairment or be eligible to receive one. Applicants should have demonstrated potential for scholarly publication and successful teaching at the university level. Preference will be given to applicants committed to preparing teachers for culturally diverse populations, and those with expertise and teaching experience with K-12 special education students with visual impairments. ACVREP certification in at least one other area (Orientation and Mobility, Vision Rehabilitation Therapy, Low Vision Rehabilitation, Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist) is desirable.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
NCDPI certification in K-12 Special Education,, or be eligible for K-12 such license or certification.
