Degree and Area of Specialization:
Associate's degree in accounting or a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field required.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
* Knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
* Ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret financial data.
* Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
* High level of attention to detail.
* Experience with University of Wisconsin, non-profit or governmental accounting.
* Knowledge of financial systems.
* Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Under the general supervision of the Accounting Services Manager, this position serves as a staff accountant within the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) within the University of Wisconsin- Madison. The position is responsible for assisting in the reconciliation of DoIT's general ledger; creating financial reports; providing financial and budget analysis; assisting with the annual DoIT budget and year-end processes; serving as a functional and technical specialist for project costing, billing and time entry; and assisting with monthly invoice processing.
DoIT maintains accrual basis financial reports on its own general ledger system. DoIT is composed of nine departments and the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the Chief Operating Officer's (COO) office with approximately 900 employees and an annual budget of approximately $100 million. Nearly 70% of DoIT's funding is generated by selling products and services to UW-Madison, UW System Administration, other University campuses and colleges. DoIT receives limited General Purpose Revenue (GPR) funding for specific student related and academic activities.
This position is initially expected to last one year, with the possibility of extending the position up to a maximum of two years and/or it may turn into a renewable appointment based on funding availability.
