Psychological Counselor (Two Available Positions)

Job Summary:

Haverford College seeks to hire two (2) part time (24 hours per week), exempt, benefits eligible Psychological Counselors. The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated special interest in working with late adolescents and young adults. In addition to being someone with a commitment to working as a team member with CAPS staff and other student services colleagues, psychological counselors listens carefully, are interested in subtext, articulating psychological complexity capably, and appreciates different views of the "good life."

Majority Primary Function:

  • Provide weekly ongoing psychotherapy to students presenting with a range of mood and anxiety disorders, including: depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, as well as character and personality disorders. Help students to navigate interpersonal difficulties related to conflict, romance, and academic performance.
  • Maintain records and responsibly manage the files of the students. Write weekly clinic notes and formulate thorough understandings of students presenting problems.

Other Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work as a part of a team in the management of their cases. This includes providing two hours of individual supervision to two different psychology trainees (graduate students and Postdoctoral Fellows), participating in a weekly intake meeting and two hours of a weekly clinical case conference.
  • Act as a resource for the college to provide consultation with student services personnel. Possibilities for running groups or conducting workshops in accordance with the interest and needs of the student population.
  • Work with the outreach coordinator to construct programming and attend relevant student events on campus.
  • Participate in a weekly ongoing reading group and during the fall semester, a didactic seminar in applying psychoanalytic theory to the college population.

Education, Training, & Experience:

This position is for licensed or license eligible clinical psychologists

Experience working with college students is preferred
