The Information Technology department is seeking a Director, IT. This Leadership role for the University of Miami’s network infrastructure organization is primarily responsible for analyzing, configuring, maintaining and repairing the University’s data networks to ensure performance and reliability. Leadership role for network strategies in order to meet the future needs of the University. Provides vision to lead a team of network engineers and architects, ensuring performance, availability and up time for network infrastructure. Provides strategic planning, direction, oversight, guidance and project management for networking services to the University of Miami community.

Specialized/Professional/Technical Duties
•Directs team that provides data connectivity throughout the University; mostly on the Coral Gables and RSMAS campuses.
•Directs performance tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of the network infrastructure.
•Directs the evaluation of new network hardware and software technologies that may strengthen or improve existing service for the University; including potential new service.
•Provides vision to lead a team of network architects, ensuring performance, availability and uptime for network infrastructure.
•Provides technical expertise and platform leadership in all network disciplines; WAN, LAN, WLAN, VPN, and Firewall Technologies.
•Ensures achievement of goals and quality of results through subordinate managers.
•Plans and implements additions, deletions and major modifications to the supporting infrastructure the University in coordination with IT Strategic direction.
•Ensures legal and regulatory compliance of all communications systems.
•Monitors and controls the performance of the University voice and data network systems.
•Sets annual targets/metrics related to IT operations and monitor the overall performance of the entire department.
•Coordinates with vendors involved in providing communications activities.
•Directs team to troubleshoot utilizing test equipment and network management components in the analysis and correction of technical problems.
•Responsible for the planning of new systems and evaluation of latest network technologies.
•Provides technical guidance to the University community.
•Develops strategic operational plans that align with the broad goals of the University, and/or Medical segment.
•Directs contract negotiation and provides accurate and timely information as needed.
•Handles difficult personnel situations directly, using appropriate discretion, HR advice, and respect for the individual.
•Select, train and evaluate subordinates and initiate personnel actions in accordance with Human Resources policies and organization philosophy.
•Provide educational and training opportunities for staff members to ensure professional development.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA):
•Ability to manage large, complex projects from start to finish.
•Excellent interpersonal communication skills in all mediums including supervision.
•Demonstrated ability to negotiate difficult, complex contract terms with vendors.

Education Requirements:
•Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

Work Experience Requirements:
• Five years related work experience required.
• Must understand meeting the service needs of academic and administrative technology users in a medical and higher education environment.
• Excellent administrative skills and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to ensure customer satisfaction with quality output.
• Managerial experience that demonstrates the ability to lead a team of professional, technical, and support staff; and proven organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills.
• Ability to reason logically and creatively; to learn and utilize new technologies; to clearly communicate ideas and recommendations; and, to write clear, and concise reports. Apply online. Position #: P100028074.
