Job Description Summary:
Facilities Services, General Service's department is seeking a Grounds person to fill a FT position, Monday through Friday, 9am to 6pm.
The ideal person for this position is a self-starter and enjoys working in a team environment. Possess integrity and excellent customer service skills and adheres to policies and processes.
This position is Designated On-Site: Employees who are required to physically report to work or remain at work during an emergency or adjustment to the university's operating status. This position is a part of the Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ (SEIU).
The core responsibilities are to: assist with all grounds related work and to ensure that the campus trash and recycling and litter is collected in a timely manner. The selected candidate will utilize appropriate garden tools and equipment such as rakes, clippers, mowers, mechanical sweepers, etc., to rake, clean grounds, parking lots, and garages on campus, plant, transplant, trim and water vegetation, mow lawns, and shovel and remove snow.
This schedule works with the grounds team from 9am until 3pm doing any and all landscaping related tasks. From 3pm until the end of shift (6pm), this position is responsible for emptying exterior trash and recycling containers and picking up ground trash/litter throughout the campus, but primarily focuses on high traffic areas where students congregate.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma/GED, or equivalent combination of training and experience, is necessary. Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to physically perform the job duties, including walking, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling of equipment.
Valid driver's licensePreferred Qualifications:
Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and work requests is necessary.
Have relevant experience performing general or landscape labor work.
