Posting Information: The School of Teaching and Learning at Western Carolina University invites applications for the position of Instructor in a one-year, fixed-term position beginning August 2017. The Position and the Responsibilities: The successful candidate will join a strong faculty in the Health and Physical Education and Health Liberal Studies program within the School of Teaching and Learning at one of the nation's most beautiful and dynamic universities. In a program that highly values collaboration and diversity, the successful candidate will be expected to perform a broad range of activities. The primary work load is teaching health liberal studies courses in Health and Wellness and/or Stress Management. Additionally, the candidate will serve as coordinator and supervisor of clinical experiences for pre-service HPE teachers at the new Catamount (lab) School for grades 6, 7 and 8 beginning in the fall of 2017. This requires a presence at the school each morning for the fall and spring semesters. The candidate must also provide service to the department and college and advise undergraduate students. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to teach resident students in both on campus and online formats and show initiative in providing service to the public schools and the region. Preference will be given to candidates who can work collaboratively across disciplines to address the education of students living in diverse environments and those who can teach in other programs in the School of Teaching and Learning.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements: The applicant must have a minimum of a master's degree from an appropriately accredited institution in health, health education, physical education or closely related field required prior to start date. Candidates must be eligible for licensure in health and/or physical education and have k-12 teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to the candidate who has successful experiences in k-12 and/or post-secondary teaching environments; show a willingness to work with middle grades students and pre-service teachers in a lab school environment; excellent oral and written communication skills; and ability/interest in using technology in the classroom.
