Position Summary

The Student Success Center cultivates the development of critical thinking skills and active learning through personal, collaborative exchanges between students, tutors, leaders, and staff. Our culture of learning is based on cognitive scaffolding that deepens the students' knowledge of specific subject material and facilitates increased self-awareness of how they learn in general. Students discover the value of engaging actively in the learning process and develop the ability to adapt to the varying challenges of liberal arts coursework. Ultimately, students' participation in sessions results in greater self-confidence, independence, and improved academic performance..The Student Success Center is composed of three academic support areas: Tutoring and Academic Skills Programs (TASP), Student Support Services (SSS), and Supplemental Instruction Program (SIP).

The Director of Student Support Services is responsible for the successful implementation of all TRiO program components and provides leadership for the professional and paraprofessional staff. The Director reports to the Executive Director for Retention, Progression, & Completion.

Duties and responsibilities include all of the following:

• Supervises all EPA/SPA staff; conducts training and staff performance appraisals annually
• Designs and implements program activities with staff input
• Recruits, selects, provides in-service training, and supervises and conducts professional staff; and prepares job descriptions
• Creates and administers the annual budgets (federal, state, & discretionary); reviews monthly reconciliation budget reports
• Conducts program planning with staff input
• Participates in University policy making affecting the TRiO Program
• Supervises the maintenance of all program records and files of present and former students
• Screens student applications for eligibility; assesses educational need for each new student
• Collects, and analyzes program data for all program activities
• Prepares the annual performance report (APR) and fiscal progress reports for U.S. Department of Education
• Supervises the program evaluation procedure with staff input
• Supervises instructional, counseling/coaching, tutoring, and administrative components
• Analyzes Special Support Services Program's data and prepares SSS semester and annual reports for the Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management
• Serves as the advisor for the 1st G student group
• Designs and conducts new student orientation programming with staff input
• Facilitates outreach programming with university community
• Consults with other university offices on behalf of SSS-TRiO students
• Interprets federal regulations governing the Program
• Manages the writing of the federal grant
• Serves as liaison and coordinates all activities with other academic support offices, academic departments, department heads, and Dean's offices
• Works closely with the Financial Aid and Office of Accessibility Resource Services directors
• Collaborates closely with the Tutoring and Academic Skills Programs and Supplemental Instruction Program coordinators
• Participates in professional development activities (NCCEOP, KNCT-3, SAEOPP, & COE)
• Serves on the following university committees: Financial Aid Appeals and Suspension/Dismissal Appeals
• Completes other duties as assigned by the Executive Director for Retention, Progression, & Completion

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of Master's degree.
  • Five (5) - seven (7) years of experience working with or managing TRiO programs, experience teaching at the college or university level. Some experience with the grant writing process.
