Assoc Strength and Conditioning Coach

Position Summary

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Michigan State University is looking for an Associate Coach of Strength and Conditioning. The primary responsibilities of this role include the creation, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive sport performance training program. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Director of Strength and Conditioning as needed in creating a championship strength and conditioning training environment and culture for Women’s Basketball and Volleyball.

  • Assist the Director of Strengthand Conditioning with the creation and implementation of sport-specific programs based on peer-reviewed, evidence-based protocols to enhance the fitness, strength, power, and speedindices of the intercollegiate athletes in the assigned sport(s).

  • Exhibit strong relationship building skills as well as comprehensive proven mentoring skills.

  • Evaluate athlete’s rate limiting factors to sport success and customize each sport-specific workout to address individual weaknesses.

  • Assist in creating a motivational environment which student-athletes strive for consistent elite level performances.

  • Assist with implementation of body-fat reduction/lean body mass enhancement strategies in accordance with sports medicine and dietetics staff.

  • Work closely with sport coaches to monitor student-athlete performance readiness.

  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and enforce risk management and safety policies.

  • Assist coaches in recruiting process.

  • Organize and schedule strength and conditioning facilities for use by intercollegiate athletic teams.

  • Evaluate Strength and Conditioning equipment needs and oversee procurement of such.

  • Exhibit proactive communication practices when working with the Athletic Training staff regarding injury prevention and rehabilitation plans.

  • Collaborate with Sports Medicine and Dietetics staff.

  • Assist with interviewing, hiring, and training professional interns, graduate assistants, and student volunteers.

  • Enforce our standards, policies, and mission statement.

  • Actively participate in weekly interdepartmental staff meetings.

  • Maintain all records concerning the student-athlete’s workouts.

  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and facilities as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Degree

Bachelors

Desired Degree

Masters -Kinesiology, Exercise Science

Minimum Requirements

At least 3 years of professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification and maintained certification through a nationally accredited strength and conditioning certification program. Current first aid, CPR and AED certification.
