Summary of Position:
The Head Coach, Strength and Conditioning, reports directly to the Deputy Director, AD/SWA and is responsible for directing and developing a high level of strength and conditioning services to UNCW student-athletes participating in 19 varsity sports. This will include oversight of the development of sport-specific strength training and conditioning programs that are scientifically-based, involve periodized/cycled regimen of exercises and drills to optimize strength, power, flexibility, mobility, agility, speed and/or work capacity-designed to enhance sport performance and decrease incidence of non-contact injuries. Will demonstrate & implement safe, effective and proven exercise techniques at each training session and deliver programs in an organized manner using the field’s best practices. Strategize and adjust current strength training programs with coaching staff and sports medicine staff collaboration. Communicate with individual coaching staffs regarding student-athlete performance and rate of progress.
The Head Coach, Strength and Conditioning will manage staff member team assignments in alignment with team and facility schedules and conduct performance evaluations for strength & conditioning staff.
• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, with at least 5 years of experience in the field of collegiate strength & conditioning.
• Knowledge of strength and conditioning exercise technique, periodization, exercise safety.
• Ability to organize and teach groups ranging from 2 to 50 student-athletes at one time.
• NSCA – C.S.C.S (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist)
OR CSCCa – SCCC (Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified)
• CPR/First Aid Certified.
Master’s degree in related field.
