Posting Summary:
The Center for Public Health Genomics is seeking a Laboratory and Research Specialist Jr to recieve and manage human biospecimens from multiple studies and carry out DNA extraction using an automated (Promega HSM) system. The incumbent also performs extensive quality assurance and quality control on DNA samples; stores, catalogues, and tracks the usage of biospecimens; assists other members of the CPHG genome sciences laboratory as necessary, with genotyping DNA samples for various projects. Additional duties include helping with budget creation and ordering.

Applicant must have an Associate's Degree in Genetics, Biochemistry, Biology or related sciences. A Bachelor's Degree in Genetics, Biochemistry, Biology or related sciences is preferred. Position requires at least two years of experience in a laboratory environment. Student experience will be considered. A Bachelor's Degree may substitute for experience. The successful candidate must have knowledge of general lab procedures, experience handling large datasets, and familiarity with computerized databases. Knowledge of high-throughput genotyping is preferred. Experience with GenomeStudio or Progeny is preferred.

This is a restricted position and is contingent upon the continued availability of funding.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of general lab procedures.
2. Experience handling large datasets and familiarity with computerized databases.
3. Excellent computing skills.
4. Must be motivated, independent, and highly organized, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
