Lecturer - Program Director, Medical Technology (Biology)
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Biology at the College of Staten Island invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Lecturer to serve as the Program Director for the Medical Technology Program. This position is anticipated to begin in September 2017. This program is currently registered by the New York State Education Department and is a NAACLS-accredited training program. The successful candidate is expected to maintain or improve our current status as an accredited program and, working closely with the Biology Department Chairperson in conjunction with our Academic Adviser and Clinical Consultant, to interface with the local hospitals for didactic training sites. The successful candidate is required to maintain accreditation status with NAACLS in addition to shouldering all responsibilities with respect to NAACS standards of the program. She/he will also be responsible for the creation of new courses or programs as warranted by the needs of the medical technology field, including any graduate programs.
The selected faculty member is expected to : Teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels,especially in the area of Medical Technology; serve on committees at the department,college or university level(s);
Plan, organize, and provide feedback to promote and direct student learning;
Engage students outside of class in support of the curriculum and co-curriculum;
Provide thorough,timely, and effective feedback to students regarding the mastery of course and program learning outcomes; Develop curriculum and work collaboratively with colleagues to choose program and/ or discipline resources;
Participate in and/or lead the activities and governance of the discipline,division,campus, and college;and
Collaborate with relevant academic disciplines and community partners in support of institutional effectiveness and student learning.
Candidate will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching courses currently offered in the program in addition to playing an active leadership role in the program development. ASCP-BOC U.S. generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist and a Master of Science degree in area(s) of expertise is required. The qualified candidate should have experience in the field of microbiology, histology,immunology/serology,molecular biology,or cell biology. A minimum of three years teaching experience is also required. The candidate should also have a knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation and certification procedures.
Salary commensurate with education and experience; $45,750 - $74,454.
