RESEARCH SPECIALIST A
Duties: The Barott laboratory in the Department of Biology, University of Pennsylvania is seeking a full-time Research Specialist. The laboratory uses techniques from cell and molecular biology, physiology, and microbial and reef ecology to investigate the symbiosis of reef-building corals. The research specialist will utilize techniques from cell and molecular biology, physiology, and microbial and reef ecology to investigate the symbiosis of reef-building corals. Primary responsibilities will include performing experiments, analyzing data, ordering laboratory supplies, maintenance of coral aquaria, and supervision of undergraduates in the laboratory. The position is available starting July 2017.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in biology or related field and 0 to 1 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Laboratory experience in cell biology, microbiology and/or molecular biology desired, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and familiarity with statistics (e.g. R) and bioinformatics. Preferred qualifications include experience working with corals or other marine invertebrates, experience mentoring undergraduate students, and ability to swim, snorkel, and work from small boats in remote tropical locations.
