The Department of Neuroscience at the University of Virginia is seeking a Laboratory Specialist 1 to conduct research in a laboratory that is using mouse models to study the pathogenesis of Huntington's disease with the goal of identifying potential treatments for this disorder. A successful candidate should be self-motivated, pays attention to detail, has good organizational skills, and can work independently. A major responsibility of this position is to manage a transgenic mouse colony including set up matings, PCR genotyping, and weaning. Other responsibilities include cryostat sectioning, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, and general laboratory management such as maintaining common stocks and equipment, ordering supplies, and preparation of shared reagents, as well as data entry and analyses using Excel, SigmaPlot, Prism and other software.
A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related field is required with at least three years of laboratory experience (which may include laboratory experience as an undergraduate student).
This position is restricted and contingent on the continuation of funding.
