The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center seeks a Ph.D. level for a Research Associate position. Incumbent will be expected to conduct research in muscle biology and/or exercise physiology. Applicants with experience in animal research in the area of autophagy/mitophagy in skeletal muscle are invited to apply. Research will mainly involve animal research in dissecting the functional importance of exercise-induced mitophagy in mitigating heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) as well as exercise training-induced prevention of symptomatic onset of Friedrich's ataxia.
As a Research Associate for the Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center you will be expected to conduct sophisticated studies to elucidate mechanisms that regulate the pathogenesis of late stage atherosclerotic lesions. The work will involve designing, carrying out and analyzing experiments, as well as publishing results in high impact journal publications. You will also be expected to seek extramural post-doctoral fellowships and to assist assigned lab in preparation of extramural grant applications including to the NIH. Applicants will also be expected to assist in training graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and lab staff. You will also be expected to contribute to overall lab maintenance and to assist other lab personnel in completing their research projects when your expertise is judged to be appropriate.
Applicants must have a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree by the start date as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Candidates must have at least two first author original research papers and likely will need to have multiple high quality papers to be competitive.
