The Center for Business Analytics in the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia is seeking applicants for one or more full-time research scientist positions beginning in June 2015. The research scientist(s) will work closely with the Center's faculty, primarily supporting research and data analysis activities pertaining to the Center's various on-going projects with industry partners on topics such as customer, social media, and predictive analytics. The results of these efforts are expected to generate manuscripts to be submitted to top-tier journals, presentations at industry and academic conferences, and innovative curriculum additions and class projects in undergraduate and master's level analytics-track courses within the McIntire School.
Ideal candidates should have a PhD in fields such as information systems, information technology, computer science, engineering, or data science. The strongest candidates will have: 1) expertise in contemporary research practices and topics related to Big Data analytics, 2) technical expertise to support on-going projects, including proficiency in programming languages such as Java or Python, familiarity with Big Data technologies, and experience with analytical software packages such as R, RapidMiner, SPSS, or SAS, 3) effective written and communication skills for presenting results and working with industry partners, 4) interest in publishing research in top outlets.
The Center for Business Analytics serves as an organizational hub for many analytics-related activities within the McIntire School of Commerce, including engaging in industry-oriented Big Data projects and cutting-edge research through the Predictive Analytics Lab. The Center encompasses an experienced core set of faculty actively involved in analytics-oriented research, teaching, and consulting, as well as numerous students working in data analyst positions. Furthermore, the Center's advisory board members, whom are affiliated with companies that are leaders in the analytics space, provide thought leadership on various projects.
