2017-2018 | Learning Resource Center | Non-FWS | Academic Peer Tutor/SI Leader
Academic subject peer tutors assist students in becoming more successful and independent learners. Peer tutors help students develop effective learning and study strategies, while at the same time helping to clarify and/or reinforce course content and materials. Additionally, select peer tutors may be given Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader responsibilites and will have been recommended directly by instructors prior to application.
Following is a partial list of Learning Resource Center peer tutor/SI Leader responsibilities:
*Provide individualized content and skill-development tutoring for tutees.
*Maintain accurate and current records of each tutoring session using TutorTrac software.
*Attend and complete tutor training and professional development sessions as required by the Learning Resource Center.
*Develop a thorough understanding and knowledge of college services, supports, and resources.
*Make appropriate student referrals to university offices, departments, or professionals, when necessary.
*Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information material, and discussions shared during the tutoring relationship.
*Perform minor administrative tasks as assigned.
Peer tutors and SI Leaders are held to the same standard of excellence as all Saint Leo University employees and serve as successful academic role models for fellow students. The peer tutor is a representative of the university core values and will conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.
*Completion of at least one semester of study at Saint Leo University
*A grade of A in the course being tutored
*A 3.5 cumulative GPA
*Positive instructor referrals/recommendations for course(s) being tutored
*Be in good standing for academic and student conduct
*Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
*Be of exemplary character, mature, responsible, cooperative, and empathetic
