Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Associate Executive Director

BASIC FUNCTION: Supports consumers achieving their outcomes by fostering the continuing development of day and community programs for individuals with developmental disabilities.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director



A. Programs

1. Recruits, selects, trains, evaluate, and supervise staff and volunteers.

2. Increases community integrated training in work, recreation and residential, maximizing opportunities for consumer choice.

3. Operates programs in an efficient and economical manner.

4. Monitors and maintains high program quality by actively soliciting consumer, employee, and peer feedback thru consumer councils and surveys and implementing a comprehensive, objective quality improvement plan.

5. Develops and maintains essential program supports and cooperative working relationships with a broad spectrum of government and government funded schools, institutions, local community human service agencies and for profit businesses.

B. Governmental Regulations

1. Develops, implements, revises, and monitors SCPF, Inc. operating policies and procedures.

2. Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of programs serving persons with developmental disabilities, including, but not limited to, those promulgated by the Department of Labor, the Department of Human Services, and the City of Chicago.

3. Maintains certification and accreditation of the agency programs through DHS and/or national accreditation bodies; works cooperatively with local residential facilities in assisting them to maintain their certifications.

C. Staff Development/Quality Enhancement

1. Identifies training needs and coordinates, supervises and participates in providing in-service training to all levels of staff to meet certification, licensing, and accreditation standard and regulations; to recruit qualified instructors to provide technical and/or specialized training to agency staff.

2. Direct, coordinate, review and evaluate a facility -wide program for assessing, improving and managing quality of services within the agency's departments.

3. Develop, implement, coordinate and monitor plans of corrective action related to the identification of problems that negatively impact the quality of services within the agency.

4. Contract outside agencies, universities and/or schools to obtain speakers to provide training to specialized groups of staff and to disseminate in-service training announcements for all levels of staff.

C. Other

1. Assist and conduct investigations of reportable incidents such as abuse, neglect, theft, etc.

2. Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the executive director in his/her absence.

3. Improves technical knowledge and grows professionally through participation in training activities.


Physical Demands include, but are not limited to:

The ability to provide frequent physical assistance in the areas of personal care, daily living activities and behavior management to individuals with developmental disabilities.

The mobility to bend or twist at the neck and trunk; squat/stoop/kneel, reach forward and climb in/out of vehicles more than the average person.

The strength to lift up to 25 pounds from shoulder to overhead; lift up to 50 pounds floor to waist; lift and maneuver an individual up to 175 pounds in a two person transfer up to 10 feet; push/pull items or individuals over 200 pounds on wheels over a variety of surfaces; and carry up to 50 pounds 15 to 26 feet.

The stamina to walk, stand and occasionally run for extended periods of time.

1. Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree and five years professional experience in training, education and progressive administration experience in an organization providing serves to individuals with developmental disabilities.

2. Computer literate with knowledge and skills in using Microsoft Word in a network environment. Internet knowledge helpful.

3. Good writing and oral presentation skills.

4. Experience in a comprehensive quality management program, such as quality assessment and improvement.

5. Ability to administer training programs and coordinate a wide variety of educational and training activities.

6. Maintain a valid driver's license; has an acceptable driving record as determined by agency auto insurance carrier (insurable under agency auto policy); has a reliable, insured car available to use during work hours.
