Posting Information: The Department of Communication at Western Carolina University invites applications for a fixed-term Instructor of Human Communication for Fall 2017. Western Carolina University is part of the University of North Carolina system. Located in Cullowhee, NC, WCU is situated in a beautiful valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 52 miles west of Asheville and near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. From its 600-acre main campus, through programs in Asheville, at various community colleges and online, WCU serves approximately 10,000 students. The Department of Communication serves the university Liberal Studies program through the COMM 201 Foundations of Communication course that is required for all undergraduate students. Duties include teaching four undergraduate courses in human communication. While the primary teaching focus is on the COMM 201 course, the successful applicant may have opportunities to teach courses in an area of specialty such as healthcare communication or new technologies. Additional duties include engaging in departmental, institutional, and regional service. All faculty members participate in regional engagement and support the University's Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). The Department of Communication is known for its engaged teaching and learning.
