Rowan University is a comprehensive state-designated research institution with approximately 14,000 students. Its main campus is located in Glassboro, N.J., 20-miles southeast of Philadelphia, and it has a branch campus and medical school in Camden and a second medical school in nearby Stratford. Rowan is only the second university in the country to offer M.D. and D.O. medical-degree granting programs. The School of Osteopathic Medicine has a faculty practice plan that serves approximately 200,000 patients throughout Southern New Jersey. The institution is also home to the South Jersey Technology Park, which fosters the translation of applied research into commercial products and processes. Its business incubator also supports that mission. The University boasts seven colleges--William G. Rohrer College of Business, Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering and colleges of Communications and Creative Arts, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Performing Arts, and Science and Mathematics.

This position is within the Information Systems Development and Maintenance group (ISDM). ISDM is tasked with keeping the software running properly for the various administrative and academic functional areas. Of the systems ISDM manages, Ellucian’s Banner Enterprise Resource System is the largest, with multiple ancillary systems that require feeds between Banner and the supporting systems. The work environment is very heterogeneous, with each analyst needing to be versed in a variety of systems and development patterns – ranging from minor bug fixes, to large scale emergency responses, mixed in with blue sky development. Working with the Business Intelligence Analysts (BIAs) and the DBAs, the ISDM analyst will help implement efficient solutions to technical problems and maintain applications that support functional areas across all campuses, including the medical schools.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting systems, applications, and processes by providing technical support to University offices by performing troubleshooting, and problem resolution work of considerable/intermediate difficulty using established policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Requires strong programming skills.
  • Working with Business Intelligence Analysts, DBAs, and project teams to design, develop, code, test, and implement programs/workflows/reports to accommodate business practices that are not delivered in the procured software solutions.
  • Utilizing request, problem, and issue tracking applications.


  • Some evening, weekend, and holiday work is required for these positions.

    Education and Experience (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.​​​​​​​​
  • Two (2) years of experience in enterprise/complex applications development and support experience. Must be able to demonstrate programming ability and software architecture competency.
  • NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute applicable professional experience on a year-for-year basis. Therefore, to qualify under the substitution allowance at this level, candidates must possess a total of six (6) years of applicable experience.
  • Education and Experience (Preferred):

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.​​​​​​​​
    • Three (3) years of experience in enterprise/complex applications development and support experience. Must be able to demonstrate programming ability and software architecture competency.
    • NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute applicable professional experience on a year-for-year basis. Therefore, to qualify under the substitution allowance at this level, candidates must possess a total of seven (7) years of applicable experience.

    Skills (Required):

  • Ability to create applications using two or more of the following: PL/SQL, Groovy/Grails, Java, Python, Perl, ECMAScript, Linux Shell (bash, grep, sed, etc.), and/or Oracle Application Express.
  • Strong proficiency using Groovy on Grails with modern web application frameworks (Banner XE).
  • Strong proficiency in creating and maintaining ETL processes and database-backed web applications.
  • Experience with relational databases (Oracle preferred), and strong SQL knowledge.
  • Experience with one or more of the following systems: Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Hyland OnBase, and/or Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Ability and desire to learn new and emerging tools and technologies.
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team, either in leader or other roles, as required.
  • Ability to multi-task and to perform at a high productivity level with minimal errors.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as necessary, to solve problems with minimal supervision.
