Rowan University is a public comprehensive state-designated research institution with approximately 17,300 students. Rowan University, Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME), invites applications for Instructor position (part-time, non-tenure track) for the 2017-18 academic year. We are searching for instructors who have an interest and expertise in teaching core mechanical engineering courses such as Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Machine Design, Thermal-Fluid Sciences, Materials Science and Manufacturing, Biomechanics, Finite Element Analysis, System Dynamics and Control and major electives. A successful candidate may also teach Freshman and/or Sophomore Engineering Clinics and will engage in relevant service activities. Opportunities also exist for supervising student projects; supervising undergraduate and graduate research assistants; and conducting research to complement existing activities in the Department, College of Engineering and across the University.

Qualifications:

The candidate should possess a minimum of a M.S. degree, a Ph.D. degree is preferred, in mechanical engineering and a Baccalaureate degree from an ABET‑accredited engineering program (or equivalent).

Candidates should have a strong foundation in one or more areas of Mechanical Engineering, particularly mechanical design, mechanics and thermal-fluid sciences. Excellence in teaching is required. Industrial experience, licensure, interest in and ability to conduct research on teaching or engineering work are considered as a positive. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to have excellent written and oral communication skills.

Salary and Appointment: Competitive. Appointment is initially for a period of 1-year; the possibility of renewal is contingent upon funding and performance.

The anticipated starting date for this position will be September 1, 2017.

The College of Engineering has innovative Bachelor of Science degree programs in Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Computer, and Mechanical Engineering that emphasize multidisciplinary experiences, teamwork, technical communication, and continuous engineering applications throughout the four years, as well as MS and PhD programs. The College of Engineering was created through a $100M gift from Henry and Betty Rowan and has continued to expand through the new South Jersey Tech Park. Further growth is anticipated with the establishment of the newly inaugurated Cooper Medical School of Rowan University and Rowan School of Medicine.
