Essential Functions:
  • Include organizing and teaching courses in health information technology as assigned;
  • Teaching online, hybrid, or face-to-face classes;
  • Evaluating student learning;
  • Assisting in implementation and assessment of curriculum, program accreditation standards, and program goals;
  • Participating in program review, and student learning outcome development & assessment to improve student learning;
  • Mentoring and advising health information technology students;
  • Attending faculty meetings;
  • Coordinating advisory committee meetings;
  • Establishing and maintaining practicum settings and arranging student placement for professional practice experience;
  • Participating with high schools offering dual enrollment health information technology courses;
  • Participating in department and college activities; and
  • Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Include a bachelor’s degree AND
  • Two years of appropriate full-time professional experience AND
  • Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA);


  • A valid California Community College credential.

    NOTE: A valid California Community College Credential is acceptable. Applicants who possess this credential must also meet the above requirements.

    The commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) requires that faculty must be qualified through professional preparation and experience, scholarship and/or teaching competencies and practice experience.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or candidate in progress in related field?
  • Maintain continuous professional membership in the American Health Information;
  • Management Association (AHIMA) and the California Health Information Association (CHIA);
  • Certificate for online teaching;
  • At least one year teaching experience in an accredited health information technology program;
  • Current knowledge of Evidence Based Decision Making?
  • Current knowledge of Emerging Workforce Models?
  • Experience directing and managing program operations including professional development of faculty, short term and long term planning, budgeting, and generating reports and data requests, including the Annual Program Assessment Report (APAR) for CAHIIM;
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Profession Coder (CPC) credential;
  • Experience working with various instructional technologies;
  • Related work and professional experience; and
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Conditions of Employment:
177 duty days per year.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary is $54,029 - $81,342 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,021 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement. From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents, a selection committee will determine the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview. The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and College President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
