About the Position
Reporting to the AVP for Transition and Retention Services, the Director of Transition Support Services and Training provides leadership, oversight, and coordination for the Spartan Scholars Summer Transitions Program, Spartan Scholars First Year Experience, Transition and Retention Mentor Program and the Transition and Retention Global Program and Experiences. The position is responsible for the development, overall management, planning, administration, direction, and evaluation of the programs and the student staff training. The Director will design, execute, and implement a strategic plan for long term development of university relations. The position is responsible for working independently in planning and implementing support programs for new students who have remediation requirements, are first generation, and for under-represented minorities to ensure a successful transition into university life and support retention efforts.
The position will work collaboratively with several campus departments, on and off campus constituents to develop strong partnerships, elevate silos, create new student pipelines into the Spartan Scholars Program, and the other support programs to assist students with Pillar One: College Readiness. This position will provide vision, strategic direction, and accountability for developing programs and services that support undergraduates' academic transition and success in collaboration with other units (such as Undergraduate Education Programs, Advising Services, Institutional Research and Planning, Academic Departments and College Deans and Admissions). Develops, reviews, and revises programs/services in order to best serve a diverse student population. The Director will be required to coordinate and facilitate assessment, prepare, and present data regarding program/services effectiveness, retention, and graduation rates for the University. Minimal travel with the State of California and outside the state may be required.
This is a position in the CSU - Management Personnel Plan (MPP), and serves at the pleasure of the President. This position will require adherence to University compliance training such as: Conflict of Interest and Ethics, AB 1825 Sexual Harassment Prevention, Information Security, and Injury and Illness Prevention Program. The person hired for this position may be required to complete an outside employment disclosure statement in accordance with Title V of the California Code of Regulations.
