The Chemistry Instructional Specialist is responsible for leading and managing the safe and efficient operation of all chemistry laboratories and related services for the Arnold, Glen Burnie Town Center, and Arundel Mills campuses. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring the availability and reliability of laboratory equipment and experimental materials, serving as the Sciences Chemical Hygiene Officer, managing hazardous waste, and providing daily supervision of laboratory personnel. In addition, the Chemistry Instructional Specialist is responsible for providing high quality instruction and technical support to students and faculty and administrative support to the Department Chair for budget management and planning, course scheduling, and assistance with special projects. This is a full time twelve-month professional staff position.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in chemistry or related field required.
  • Minimum of three years of science laboratory management experience, preferably in post-secondary setting.
  • Proven organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously, with attention to details and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated experience with fiscal management and record keeping.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to integrity, excellence, learning, and professional development.
  • Ability to interact with a variety of faculty, staff and students from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to the safe operation of science laboratories including hazardous waste management and reporting requirements.
  • Experience in developing, writing, and reviewing safety plans, procedures and documentation, and administering safety programs including certification as a chemical hygiene officer or the ability to earn this training.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Prior chemistry teaching experience at the post-secondary level highly desired.
  • Previous experience with laboratory design and renovations desired.
