Benefits Deduction Specialist

Primary Function of Organization Unit: HR Benefits is responsible for handling deduction and reconciliation-related activities. With the complexity of on-going changes in both federal and state legislation with regard to benefits and leave programs; requirements by the State to utilize their systems and processes, such as ORBIT and EBenefits platform, upgrades to the University HR system; and the continuous need to restructure responsibilities to accommodate organizational needs/objectives, a Specialist with high working knowledge of the functionality of PeopleSoft is required to effectively and efficiently support the department's growing business needs.
Essential Job Duties: The Benefits Deduction Specialist provides daily functional and analytical system support for all benefits payroll processing. The Specialist tests system changes and upgrades; serves as liaison with vendors relating to deduction and payment processing, system billing and remittance interfaces/data and money transfers and associated clearing account reconciliation; serves as a functional team member on evaluating benefits foundational data structure to ensure compatibility with operational and cross functional areas within the organization; maintains the integrity of the HRIS system through comprehensive PeopleSoft technical knowledge; and processes deductions and balance payrolls by established deadlines.
Department Required Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in/abilities with Microsoft Office Suite and web based systems (Peoplesoft a plus) including analysis, system and user testing, query, problem resolution and planning. Knowledge of relevant codes and laws (i.e. DOL, IRS, etc.) Demonstrated ability to work effectively within and across various departments on complex projects. Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills. Demonstrated experience communicating/supporting customers across multiple tiers of the organization effectively. Ability to multi-task and see projects through to the end. Basic ability to understand and interpret multiple plans documents, policies, procedures, legal requirements, and retirement plan concepts.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Professional benefits, payroll, accounting work experience with progressive responsibilities in benefits and payroll compliance is strongly preferred. Experience with HRIS automated systems. Relevant certifications such as PHR/SPHR, CEBS or CBP. Graduation of a four year college/university. Solid knowledge of the IRS code, DOL rules and, North Carolina State regulations as they apply to benefits, retirement, and leave programs. Professional experience with PeopleSoft HRIS.
