The University of Illinois Alumni Association seeks an Advocacy Coordinator, under the direction of the Assistant Vice President for Advocacy (AVP), this position plans, coordinates and staffs several Illinois Connection events and activities as well as oversees the in-district meetings initiative with AVP oversight. Also, this position provides assistance to the Assistant Vice President, Alumni Advocacy on other key Illinois Connection initiatives including the Tier 2 Ambassador level of Illinois Connection. Additional responsibilities include:



Duties:

1. Assist with e-advocacy efforts through Cision (CRM for advocacy)

a. Assist with content and technical details for all communications with advocates through e-advocacy.

b. Organize and update advocates' records and records in TED.

c. Share information with TED to ensure advocates' records are up-to-date and that Illinois Connection advocates are coded in TED.

2. Grass Roots/Grass Tops Initiatives

a. Recruitment of advocates at the grassroots level via the Illinois Connection program.

b. Assist with a high level/grass-tops initiative including personally recruiting grass-tops advocates.

3. Event Execution

a. Planning and execution of in-district legislative meetings under the supervision of the Assist VP, Alumni Advocacy.

b. Assist with logistics and execution of Illinois Connection Events, such as the Annual Meeting, UI Day at the Capitol (both student and alumni), alumni in government events, and letter writing campaigns.

4. Tier 2 Recruitment and Coordination

a. Implement the plan to effectively engage Illinois Connection advocates who are interested in more boots-to-the ground activities for the three U of I campuses with advocacy issues and events and spread the message of Illinois Connection.

b. Oversight of certain areas Tier 2 Ambassadors program under the supervision of the Assist VP, Alumni Advocacy.

5. Respond to advocates' requests

a. Review IC email in-box, letters, and phone calls.

6. Administrative duties

a. Coordinate mailings (new member packets, mailings to advocates, tier 2 packets, etc.)

b. Submit social media and marketing requests.

c. Business paperwork relating to contracts, invoice payments, and travel reimbursements.

d. Answer phones and check voice mail.

7. Significant travel is required for this position.

8. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.



Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in related field with a minimum of one to three years of relevant work experience and any of the combination of the following types of preparation: work experience in the University system; University coursework in business administration, hospitality management, higher education, communication, political science or a closely related field; background in event planning and coordination; background in politics or policy; advanced computer skills including MS Office, website maintenance and design, and ability to quickly learn other programs as needed; and ability to travel per job requirements.
