The Beirne B. Carter Center for Immunology Research at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Associate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Victor Engelhard. The incumbent joins an interactive group of motivated scientists to oversee and carry forward studies of lymphatic endothelial cells as modulators of T-cell immune responses in the context of inflammation and cancer. During this postdoctoral training, the successful candidate will examine one or more of the following: alterations in the immunological characteristics of LEC based on location in peripheral tissue or lymph nodes; signaling by TLR ligands or pro-inflammatory cytokines; the ability of LEC to acquire and present antigen for the induction of immunological tolerance or the promotion of immune memory; and the role of PD-L1 expression by LEC in controlling the overall quality of adaptive immune responses.
Applicants must have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree in hand by the start date. The successful candidate is self-motivated and curious; has effective bench, leadership and interpersonal skills; works well in a team-oriented culture of basic scientists and clinicians; and has effective oral and written communication skills. Previous training in immunology is essential, and past experience in analyzing human T cell immune responses is highly preferred.
