About The Unit: The Program on Political Violence (PPV) is part of the Chicago Project on Security and Threats (CPOST). CPOST is an international security affairs research institute based at the University of Chicago. The Program on Political Violence studies issues of civil war, armed politics, civil-military relations, and criminal violence, with a focus on the contemporary developing world.

Unit Job Summary: The Senior Research Analyst at PPV must contribute to multiple analytic reports. Ideal candidates would work both independently and help supervise other researchers to complete complex project objectives. Oversees implementation of project, including planning new procedures, adapting existing procedures to the needs of the project, and finding and using a wide variety of empirical sources. Oversees data collection, evaluation, and analysis. Writes and edits reports, bibliographies, and coding narratives. Conducts literature reviews. Trains and oversees the work of research support personnel.

Unit Education: BA required, advanced degree preferred in political science or relevant social sciences.

Unit Experience: Experience writing analytic reports required. Experience supervising other researchers writing analytic reports required. Experience with PowerPoint presentations on complex research required.

Unit Job Function Competencies: Ability to write analytic reports and construct datasets for research projects required. Ability to work independently and supervise teams of full-time and part-time researchers required. Ability to multitask and independently prioritize tasks required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel required. Reading proficiency in Hindi or Urdu preferred but not required. Ability to work 37.5 hours a week on campus required.
