Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Head of Access Services has a strong commitment to service and learning for students, faculty, staff and the community. The Head of Access Services is responsible for administering and supervising the Circulation, Reserves, Interlibrary Loan, Stacks Management and Academic Outreach and Engagement Units in Willis Library. The librarian exercises broad independent judgment and authority under the general direction of the Associate Dean for Public Services. The librarian ensures that all departmental public service activities meet the standards set by the UNT Libraries. The librarian serves on library committees and work groups as assigned. Duties may also include designing and implementing new services, promoting and assessing current services, assisting with collection development and teaching library instruction sessions.
The Head of the Access Services Department must be a visionary who coordinates the development of departmental goals and objectives to support the Libraries' Strategic Plan and improve customer service to library users.
*Responsible for the overall supervision of 2 librarians and 10 paraprofessional staff
*Responsible for operational goal planning and overall activities of the department
*Evaluates operations of the department to make the best use of resources, staff, technology and services
*Maintains, develops, and revises policies and procedures for the operation of the Access Services Department
*Oversees management of circulation, research assistance, interlibrary loan and document delivery services
*Improves workflows and services with a strong focus on customer service
*Fosters positive relations with faculty, students, and staff and promotes the University's and Libraries' commitment to diversity
*Performs research assistance services, guest lectures, and serves on Library and University Committees as needed
*Is active professionally and contributes to the developments in the field.
*Chairs the UNT Libraries Circulation Work Group

Librarian rank will be determined by the Library Personnel Affairs Committee through review of the selected candidate's education, experience, scholarly and professional involvement, and service.
* ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information sciences or an international equivalent

*Three years' experience working in a library circulation/interlibrary loan/access services setting, preferably academic
*Demonstrated management skills, including managing employees, scheduling, budgeting, and leadership skills
*Demonstrated ability to be organized, adjust priorities, manage time wisely, and make quick, effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.
*3 years supervisory experience, preferably in an academic environment
*Working knowledge of library systems, combined service points, resource sharing, research assistance strategies, reserves, stacks management, delivery methods and software
*Knowledge of cash handling procedures
*Demonstrated experience working with Sierra and ILLiad on a management level.
*Demonstrated experience managing services and projects and utilizing resources effectively
*Experience assessing services for effectiveness
*Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and leading a team
*Demonstrated proficiency in a Windows environment and with MS Office applications.
*Demonstrated contribution to the profession with scholarly publications and/or presentations and through contributions to professional organizations.
