Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's required, Master's or other advanced degree preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
- A minimum of two years experience is preferred in coordinating educational programs at the graduate or undergraduate level and program administration.
-Knowledge of public policy professional careers and training is preferred; knowledge of local, federal, and international work opportunities is preferred.
-Strong organizational and management skills required.
-Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with students, faculty, staff and alumni is required.
-Computer knowledge in word processing and database management is required.
-Demonstrated administrative, supervisor, and program management skills is preferred.
-Excellent written and oral communication skills is required.
-Aptitude for interpreting rules and regulations with high attention to detail and problem solving skills is preferred.
-Capability to train, lead, motivate, and supervise personnel with a variety of program support responsibilities is preferred.
-Independent decision making ability and the ability to analyze situations and exercise good judgement in making a wide variety of decisions is preferred.
-Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional, and team-oriented working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and other campus units is preferred.
The Robert M. La Follette School of Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is a highly ranked program that offers master's degrees in domestic and international public affairs. The Student Services Coordinator coordinates the La Follette School graduate program admissions and course advising services for about 100 students (about 50 students per cohort). The Coordinator markets the La Follette School program and meets with prospective students, assisting them throughout the application process. The Coordinator serves as a resource for students in navigating the various departments of the university, the enrollment process, and graduation requirements. The Coordinator works closely with students to ensure they meet course requirements for the Master of Public Affairs and Master of International Public Affairs programs. The Coordinator also collaborates with faculty on curriculum development, advising, admissions, and enrollment management. The Coordinator works under the direction of the Associate Director and provides supervision to the Student Services Assistant. Responsibilities are subject to change as the position evolves and as additional degrees are offered by the School or degree requirements change.
