Position Information
UC Riverside Entomology Department is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support an Associate Research Specialist in maintaining nematode and bacterial cultures; preparing solutions and media using aseptic techniques; preparing nematodes for microscopic examination and PCR diagnostics; setting up laboratory arenas and assays; receiving and organizing laboratory supplies; cleaning and maintenance of equipment and work space; collecting gastropods from nurseries; helping set up laboratory and greenhouse experiments for slug biocontrol research and performing one or more standard repetitive laboratory and/or field experimental procedures that require technical scientific knowledge, following all safety standards in a teaching or research laboratory. This position is supported by a CDFA grant, part-time, on a limited appointment. The selected candidate will need to be flexible in his/her work schedule to accommodate those days that require more involvement when it comes to data collection for experiments, including some weekends. Otherwise, the expected work schedule is 20 hrs or less per week, to be accommodated on a Monday through Friday schedule.

Minimum Requirements
Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Experience working in a biology/molecular biology laboratory and conducting nursery/field experiment.
Familiarity with computer programs like Excel, Powerpoint and Word.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Biology or related fields of Entomology and Plant Pathology
Prior experience working with nematodes, bacteria, gastropods, and/or earthworms.
PCR experience.
