The office of Online & Academic Outreach operates to extend the resources of the university to the community and beyond by providing quality undergraduate and graduate courses for traditional and non-traditional students, as well as credit and non-credit professional and personal development experiences. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the department, which provides University system-wide and/or campus-wide services for online, as well as all programs offered through the Office of Online & Academic Outreach. For Academic Outreach this includes the management, strategic direction, policy and procedural accountability, fiscal and human resources, as well as development of new programs and the fostering of existing programs. Functions include forecasting, planning, developing and implementing new programs, and providing fiscal and human resources oversight, while representing the department as a senior leader at the University. For Online, this includes student support as a front desk student services aspect for all online students.

All the above-mentioned responsibilities must adhere to university, state and federal policies and procedures to ensure the programs offered by Online & Academic Outreach are following higher education mandated protocol and contributing to the vision of Online & Academic Outreach and UCCS.

Job Duties:

  • Supervises provision of excellent student services experiences for online students.
  • Develops and implements new opportunities in the community and beyond while coordinating with colleges and other departments to meet campus strategic goals for campus and students as a whole.
  • Regulates and ensures compliance with all applicable laws and policies, for any academic outreach programs and/or academic and non-credit programs offered by the colleges, including campus policies.
  • Develops, improves and supervises campus services supporting any academic outreach programs/activities and ensures all protocols are followed per campus policies.
  • Creates new programs and initiatives to assist the professional development, non-traditional and dual credit aspects of the campus. (e.g., CU Succeed, PLTW, Weekend University, Professional Development opportunities for a myriad of professional careers regionally, nationally, and internationally.)
  • Actively engages with the K-12 community in developing mutually beneficial programs.
  • In consultation with the colleges, leads the development and implementation of a campus-wide marketing plan for academic outreach programs.
  • Meets regularly and consults with deans of the colleges and the library.
  • Participates in development of and leads implementation and evaluation of the campus Extended Studies policy.
  • Develops and supervises the implementation of grants in support of academic outreach programs.
  • Assures compliance with the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE), the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), State Authorization, and campus standards/policies and deadlines in support of the admission, registration, course delivery, assessment and marketing needs of academic outreach programs.
  • Provides fiscal analysis, prepares, defends, and manages all budgets in Online & Academic Outreach.
  • Represents UCCS to the Colorado Department of Higher Education on extended studies issues.
  • Represents UCCS as the high school concurrent college credit liaison for the University.
  • Creates, maintains, and fosters awareness of technological innovations to better serve all constituencies, the University, the community, the students and the like. (i.e. Electronic transcripts, streamlined processes, expanded online services, work flow automation, etc.)
  • Monitors and generates appropriate data reports to provide an overview of the students and programs.

For the purposes of FLSA this position has been determined to be exempt from (not eligible for) overtime under FLSA.

Salary Range:
$87,500 - $113,000

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in an organization responsible for revenue generation
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution
  • Experience supervising staff

Preferred Requirements

  • Knowledge of the University of Colorado System or a similar academic institution and agencies of the State of Colorado
  • Experience working with online educational programs
  • Demonstrated experience in both tactical and strategic planning and implementation
  • Professional experience in a self-funded department
