Visiting Assistant Professor of Chinese Studies - Department of Modern Languages and Literatures
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Case Western Reserve University invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor in Chinese Studies. Duties will begin in August, 2017. Position is renewable for up to two additional one-year periods upon satisfactory performance.
The successful candidate will be willing and qualified to teach Chinese at intermediate and advanced levels. Experience teaching in higher education and Ph.D. or A.B.D. in Chinese language, literature, culture, applied linguistics, second language acquisition (or related field) is required. The level of appointment of the successful candidate will be Visiting Assistant Professor (with Ph.D.) or Visiting Instructor (ABD).
Teaching responsibilities include four courses over the academic year, including two advanced Chinese language courses and two content courses in Chinese Studies. Specific courses offered will depend upon departmental needs and the candidate’s expertise. Applicants should also be prepared to teach an interdisciplinary seminar. Duties include serving as Chinese Language Program Coordinator with overall responsibility for curricular, administrative, and staffing issues in the Department's Chinese language program. Experience in teaching language in an American college or university setting, and formal training in teaching Chinese as a foreign language expected. Candidates must have native or near-native command of Mandarin Chinese, with standard pronunciation, and of English.
