Full-time, 10-month position to start August, 2017, to assist in developing and implementing mental health programs for the campus community including intake and assessment, individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention including on-call responsibilities, consultation and referral, training, supervision, and educational program development and delivery. Manage on-going psychoeducational programs, which promote community mental health and consultation with faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and other students around issues related to the developmental and psychological needs of students. Psychologists complement a strong relationship-focused team of professionals committed to the psychological needs and development of traditional age, residential students, and to providing leadership to the campus in regards to mental health issues, with a demonstrated commitment to supporting, empowering and retaining students from underrepresented groups.
Position/Job Responsibilities
Provide individual assessment, time-limited counseling, and, as interests and needs arise, group counseling to students seeking assistance with personal, psychological, or interpersonal problems. Provide support for students whose personal, psychological, or interpersonal problems are interfering with their functioning as students and as members of the Ithaca College community. Assist in assessing psychological withdrawals and leaves of absences. Provide crisis counseling and counseling services for students with acute psychological problems - includes on-call responsibilities.

  • Present psycho-educational programs to members of the Ithaca College community to promote personal, interpersonal, and psychological health.

  • Provide training and consultation on special programs or to particular student groups; develop training programs to promote staff development in helping skills; participate in the training of residence hall and other appropriate staff.

  • Provide consultation to faculty, staff, administrators, and other concerned individuals regarding issues of student mental health; support faculty and staff development programs related to the creation of a psychologically healthy community; support academic programs which contribute to the healthy development of students.

  • Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful College community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.

  • Assist in research relevant to assessing student needs and describing student behavior and culture; assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of counseling and other counseling center activities.

  • Provide guidance, direction and clinical supervision to graduate clinical interns.

  • Provide service to the division and the institution (e.g., serving on a committee or Staff Council, advising a student group or participating in focus groups).

  • Provide coordination of Counseling Center programs (e.g., Assessment and Research, Group Therapy, Outreach and Education, Paraprofessional Training, Suicide Awareness and Prevention) and oversee administrative tasks in support of assigned programs.

  • Abide by professional ethical guidelines and comply with federal and state law as it relates to the practice of psychology.
    Position/Job Qualifications
    Earned doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology or closely related field from an APA accredited program, and eligibility for licensure as a psychologist in the State of New York. At least two years post-Master's experience in a college or university counseling center is required. Two to five years post doctorate clinical experience is preferred. Having a demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues within a department and across the institution, the ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment, as well as experience in providing service through outreach activities, program development, and committee involvement are required. Demonstrated clinical skills and proven managerial and supervisory skills with continuing interest in professional development around current practices and trends. Strong generalist with experience with common presenting concerns of college students, and experience and interest in providing group therapy preferred. Demonstrated interest, expertise, and commitment to working with students from underrepresented groups through culturally-competent therapy and programming strongly preferred.
