Position Summary: The University of North Carolina (UNC) Nicotine Dependence Program (NDP) is nationally known for its leadership in implementing comprehensive tobacco use treatment services and disseminating resources for promoting tobacco free communities. Located in the UNC School of Medicine's Department of Family Medicine, NDP carries out its mission through clinical treatment services for tobacco dependence, education and training for health care providers, technical assistance related to policy and system change, and research to advance knowledge and practice. NDP and the work of its Director reflect the mission of the University in public service by offering evidence-based clinical programs in multiple health care settings whose goal is improving the health of North Carolinians. The Director of the Nicotine Dependence Program (NDP) will lead interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts to develop local, regional, national and global programs that increase the reach and availability of evidence-based tobacco treatment interventions. The Director will also work to expand a growing UNC Weight Management Program as part of its overall goal of health promotion and disease prevention. The Director is responsible for development of the overall educational mission and outreach of both clinical programs through instruction and direct service, clinical decision making, patient education, program development and evaluation, research design, policy implementation, quality improvement, and organizational development. The Director will also coordinate the tobacco use and weight management clinical programs throughout the UNC Health Care System and external worksites, providing fiscal oversight of programs and supervision of program staff.
Education Requirements: MPH or similar advanced public health degree required with directly related experience. PhD preferred.
Qualification and Experience: Five year's minimum experience desired in the following areas: clinical delivery of services, tobacco use prevention and control, tobacco use treatment in multiple settings (e.g. inpatient, outpatient, cancer center, and worksite settings); treatment of obesity; teaching in academic medical centers; grant writing and project management; supervision of master's level staff, including all aspects of hiring and performance review. Applicants need excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, flexibility, and problem solving mentality. Applicant must exhibit vision and leadership qualities for expanding programs, mentoring direct and indirect reports, and working in a collaborative and team orientated environment.
