Accelerator Controls Physicist

Position Summary

Coordinate development of human-machine interface (HMI) in support of accelerator operations in the ReAccelerator Department at the NSCL; serve as project leader for scheduling and coordinating resources, create documentation for design, implementation and testing of HMI's to control the accelerator and related equipment; design and develop HMI's in CS-Studio.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

The job requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physics; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in physics, electronics, mechanical and/or electrical drafting, fabrication techniques, heat transfer, cryogenics and computer systems; and may require experience in the use of CAD and/or related engineering systems, including file transfer; experience in the use of exotic metals, including knowledge of their properties, in the fabrication and assembly of sophisticated research equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Two years of experience in high level programming using Python or similar,CS Studio and EPICS software tools, development of user interfaces for particle accelerators, human-machine interface development with graphics, ergonomics,and accessibility.  Must have five years of experience in operating a particle accelerator at an accelerator research facility.
