Position Summary:
The Network Security Administrator has primary responsibility for the analysis, design, development, testing, and auditing of the security of the College's network and data. Provides security recommendations to Director, Information Technology and staff based on needs and security incidents; creates, maintains, evaluates, and documents administrative, physical, and technical security controls. Develops automated security event monitoring and procedures, assists systems administrators and clients with the secure use of technology assets. Performs vulnerability and risk assessments; and functions as an incident handler and technical lead during security incidents.
  • Manages the development and implementation of college-wide network and data security policy, standards, guidelines and procedures to ensure ongoing maintenance of security for the College's network and data
  • Identifies protection goals, objectives and metrics consistent with the college's strategic plan and works with IT leadership to prioritize security initiatives and spending based on appropriate risk management
  • Delivers cross-platform solutions which meet state and federal regulatory and security compliance, including Texas Administrative Code 202, NIST, FERPA, HIPAA, and PCI
  • Oversees the development of, and leads a college-wide security awareness and training program
  • Develops, implements, and manages the overall enterprise process for information security strategy, associated architecture and engineering standards
  • Performs information security risk assessments and serves as an internal auditor for security issues
  • Serves as an internal information security consultant to the organization; participates in any external information security audits; assists in the review of applications and/or technology environments
  • Maintains and configures network security equipment in support of security policies; monitors network traffic and correlate system logs to identify potential system breaches or security exploits
  • Perform system tuning, monitoring and trend analysis; develops and manages project plans
  • Assists in or manages the installation of software and/or hardware components keeping security best practices in the forefront; understands and follows industry technology trends
  • Oversees incident response planning as well as the investigation of security breaches, and assists with disciplinary and legal matters associated with such breaches, as necessary
  • Collaborates and assists as necessary to support the college strategic plan and in achieving institutional and student success

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or closely related field
    • Three (3) years of experience in systems administration supporting a complex and enterprise-level network
    • Experience with administration of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems in an information technology environment
    • Experience with configuring and securing network and server hardware, operating systems and software
    • Experience with enterprise-level networking equipment, including firewalls, routes, and switches
    • Ability to work with end-users to design, develop, test and implement support applications for Departments
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment; diagnose problems and recommend appropriate solutions
    • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, organizational, and collaborative skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Professional certification (CISSP, GIAC, other)
