Lecturer -Education and Human Development (EDHD)

Job Summary:

The School of Education & Human Development will establish and maintain a pool of Lecturers from which future appointments to temporary, part-time non-tenure-track positions in our program of Education and Human Development - Learning Concentration will be made. Lecturers are limited to two courses per term. This will be a semester-by-semester appointment, with the possibility of renewal. This temporary Lecturer pool is anticipated to remain continuously active through May 31, 2018-at that point, all applications will be cleared from the pool. You are welcome to reapply to the new posting after that date.

Lecturers selected from this pool will become vital members of the School's innovative education programs. The SEHD emphasizes diverse collaborative partnerships including PK-12 schools, local communities, businesses, government agencies, private foundations, and other universities and colleges.

Job Responsibilities:

The purpose of this posting is to expand our pool of Lecturers available to teach on-campus courses. These are temporary, part-time Lecturer positions, as we build our capacity to offer quality instruction to all students in the School of Education and Human Development.

Teaching assignments may fluctuate and are contingent upon the schedule of courses offered each term, the required number of student enrollments in your tentatively scheduled course(s), and budget availability. Thus, we cannot guarantee that you will teach particular courses or that you will actually teach in a given term.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Education, Psychology, Human Development, or a closely related field.
  • Experience successfully teaching an undergraduate or graduate course (e.g., Human Learning; Human Development Over the Life Span; Designing Environments for Learning and Development; Cognition and Instruction; Motivation in Contexts; Mind, Brain and Education; Advanced Child Growth and Development; or Social Contexts of Adolescence)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Evidence of understanding of historic and present day sociocultural issues that influence and are influenced by education, as well as a commitment to social justice.
  • Experience with culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse communities, knowledge of urban school issues.
  • Proficient with basic technology (e.g. MS Office)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching at the graduate level.
  • Experience teaching online or with blended/hybrid models (e.g. Blackboard or eCollege and LiveText).
  • Significant successful teaching or work experience in K-12 education, community, or business contexts, especially in urban and diverse settings.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this position has been established at $4350 per 3 credit course taught (up to two courses per term). The amount may be pro-rated based upon course enrollment. This will be a semester-by-semester appointment, with the possibility of renewal.

This part-time appointment is not eligible for group health, life insurance, and retirement benefits.
