Job Description
The coordinator of communication and engagement serves as the primary contact for parents of undergraduate students at the University of South Carolina. The coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing and assessing events and communications-related programs and services for parents and families, which provide them with resources to support their students' growth and success at Carolina (including Parents Weekend, hosting nearly 10,000 participants, and Dinner Dialogues, a year-round initiative). The coordinator will also manage sponsorship and in-kind donation acquisition, cultivating relationships with local businesses and business districts. Focusing on customer service, the coordinator assists parents and families with questions and concerns and promotes the office as the central resource for families of undergraduate students. The coordinator also assists in the development of creative content for all functional areas in the Department of Student Life: to include researching, writing, proofreading and editing. This individual is an expert in all things related to content and channel optimization, brand consistency, audience segmentation, analytics and meaningful measurement.


Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 3 years experience related to the development and dissemination of informational material.

This position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement / hazardous weather and other emergencies. In addition, this position requires a variable work schedule.

Knowledge/Skills/Expertise

Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, including parents, faculty, staff, students, university administration and donors. Must be extremely detail-oriented. Must be able to effectively manage multiple projects at one time in a fast-paced environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated desktop publishing skills using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. Must maintain awareness of current trends relating to the needs of parents/families of undergraduate students. Must be a self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team. Customer service focused. Excellent problem-solving skills. The ability to maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations. Ability to think strategically.
