The Assistant Director, International Services, oversees the daily operations of the international services and study abroad/exchange programs. Facilitates the application process for outbound and incoming students, assist in the development of new programs and initiatives, assist with marketing efforts, and serve as a liaison to faculty, student services offices, and academic departments. The assistant director is also responsible for organizing events such as faculty orientations, student orientations, workshops, information sessions, and fairs.

• Conducts preliminary interviews with interested students; work with students to determine the most appropriate program(s).
• Advises, assists, and manages students going to and coming from assigned exchange programs (inquiries, application, acceptance/admission, housing, orientation, grades/transcripts, re-entry to UM/home institution, post-program issues).
• Uses independent discretion to verify credentials of overseas universities for students going abroad on non-UM programs and to verify credentials of universities that provide transcripts for students going abroad on non-UM programs.
• Serves as intermediary for student between departments and overseas institution.
• Manages assigned exchange programs and develop/maintain relationships with overseas partners.
• Works with overseas counterparts from assigned exchange programs to arrange courses and housing for both inbound and outbound exchange students.
• Maintains correspondence with students, parents, overseas partners.
• Maintains student files and database.
• Evaluates, maintains, and updates existing agreements and prepare new agreements.
• Coordinates and delivers information sessions/orientations for the development of new faculty-led programs.
• Works with faculty to develop new courses.
• Assists faculty in coordinating plans for course.
• Conducts marketing of programs and courses.
• Develops budget for course with faculty input.
• Registers students and monitors registrations and payments.
• Processes travel advances and payments.
• Reconciles revenue and expenses for courses abroad budgets.

• Bachelor’s degree in related field (education, international relations, communication) required.
• Master’s degree preferred.

• Two years of work experience as a Designated School Official (DSO) advising F-1 international students on immigration matters required, five years of work experience preferred. Any appropriate combination of relevant education and/or work experience may be considered.
• In-depth knowledge of U.S. Department of Homeland Security F-1 visa status regulations required.
• Familiarity with ISSM, a web-based case management system which allows schools to electronically interface with SEVIS, preferred.
• Experience and skills with computer applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), including websites, required.
• Strong organizational, intercultural and technical information skills required.
