The Director, Human Resources is the top HR position in support of the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. The position reports directly to the University Human Resources Senior Director of HR Strategy and Solutions, and works very closely (on site) with NYU Steinhardt's Associate Dean of Operations. The role is highly strategic in support of the Dean's initiatives, and is responsible for the effective management of high-quality human resources services to the NYU Steinhardt employee population (staff and administration) with support/coordination as needed with Faculty Services.

Major responsibilities include:

    Align with NYU Steinhardt leadership to prioritize goals and identify workforce needs in the creation of a Human Capital strategy. Partner with University Human Resources' Centers of Expertise and Finance Operations & Treasury's PeopleLink team to customize and facilitate processes that ensure high quality HR service delivery. Actively monitor HR service delivery and advocate changes and improvements on behalf of Steinhardt's evolving needs. Project manage strategic initiatives as required. Provide both strategic and tactical, actionable guidance and expertise on matters related to employee and labor relations, recruitment and talent management, compensation and job design, performance management, and organizational and staff development. Interpret and communicate federal, state, and local employment laws, University HR policies, and terms of collective bargaining agreements.
Required Education:

Bachelor's degree

Preferred Education:

Master's degree in Human Resources Management or related area.

Required Experience:

10 years relevant experience as a human resources generalist in a professional or managerial level capacity or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include in depth knowledge of a variety of human resources areas (including employee relations, recruitment, training and development, and compensation and job design) and experience managing staff, administrative process and projects.

Preferred Experience:

Human resources experience in an academic environment and/or with a complex, multinational organization. Experience working in an organization with an HR Shared Services / Centers of Expertise model.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong consultative, negotiation, analytical and influencing skills. Superior relationship management and communication abilities. Very strong diagnostics/assessment and action planning capability. Proven ability to operate effectively in ambiguity and manage diverse resources. Demonstrated ability to develop policies and procedures that align with organizational needs. Extensive knowledge of human resources concepts, practices, legislation, and procedures.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Human Resources certification from a professional accrediting body (HRCI, SHRM, or equivalent). Working knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems, including Workday.
