Senior Research Scientist
I. DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
Job Description Summary:
A Senior Research Scientist position is available in the developmental genetics laboratory of Dr. Sally A. Moody in the Department of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The Department of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology is home to some of the University’s leading educators and researchers. As a modern biomedical research department, faculty members direct NIH-funded projects, with a focus on molecular, cellular, developmental, and physiological aspects in the field of stem cell and regenerative biology. We are studying various aspects of the genetic control of neural ectoderm formation and pre-placodal ectoderm formation. A special emphasis is on discovering new genes that may contribute to branchio-oto-renal syndrome, a birth defect characterized by dysmorphology of the branchial arches, ear and kidney. We are particularly interested in genes that act as co-factors for Six1 as well as genes that are direct targets of Six1. The Senior Research Scientist will report to the Principal Investigator and will function independently. Specific responsibilities include:
- Designs and conducts experiments in a laboratory setting;
- Collects and analyzes data;
- Prepares reports (manuscripts, progress reports, seminars, posters).
- Publishes and presents reports and research papers;
- Develops new theories and methodologies;
- Serves as team leader for the projects on branchio-oto-renal syndrome targets of Six1 transcription factor; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Requires a master’s degree/PhD and at least 8 years of experience in the field or in a related area; as well as two years of research and/or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed. Experience must include planning, conducting and reporting as primary responsibilities.Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Developmental Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics or related field is preferred but not required.
