Duties: This position as a research specialist A, involves conducting experiments in support of a basic research project focused on fat cell biology, metabolic disease and obesity. The candidate will: (1) perform wet-lab experiments using molecular biology techniques, (2) perform mouse husbandry and genotyping, and (3) assist with ordering lab supplies and maintaining equipment. The candidate must be comfortable with the daily handling of mice. Techniques include: mouse husbandry, mouse colony maintenance, mouse genotyping, glucose tolerance testing, insulin tolerance testing, histology, mammalian cell culture, gene expression analysis by RT-PCR, western blot analysis. Candidate must be self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision.
For a research specialist B, in addition to performing the tasks listed above, the candidate will be expected to analyze and present data as well as help troubleshoot experiments under the limited supervision of senior research staff.

Qualifications: Research Specialist A would require a Bachelors Degree in Biology, Biochemistry or related discipline and and 0 to 1 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A Research Specialist B would require the same as above with a minimum of 1-3 years of experience.

Candidates who are highly motivated and have excellent organizational skills preferred.
