The Center for Research on Child Wellbeing (CRCW) is an interdisciplinary research center at the Woodrow Wilson School and the Office of Population Research at Princeton University, focused on stimulating basic research, educating faculty and students and influencing policymakers and practitioners on issues affecting children, youth and families.

We are seeking a Research Specialist II to provide data management and statistical analysis for the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study (FFCWS). This position will support the release of data from the Year 15 wave of FFCWS, and preparation for the Year 22 wave of data collection. This individual will support Principal Investigators and collaborators, project staff, and external researchers and students using the FFCWS data.

This is a two year term position with the possibility of renewal based on project funding and performance.


The Research Specialist II will manage a very large archive of highly-sensitive data from a prominent federally funded study. This will include a range of programming activities, including preparing supplemental files from administrative data sources, quality checking files, developing technical documentation and managing the release of data through public archives as well as the restricted-use contract process using FFCWS archives. These archives house genetic files with millions of data points and survey data with 5000 respondents and tens of thousands of variables for each respondent.

Other responsibilities include:
  • Assisting in developing survey instruments and drafting documentation and new project resources in new wave of data collection
  • Analyzing and summarizing data for articles, reports, and grant requests;
  • Conducting outreach for the study through social media, our website, and publications database.
  • Answering data users' questions through a dedicated email (approximately 300 inquiries per year); and conducting introductory tutorials and presentations for new data users, including Princeton JP and senior thesis students.


  • Master's degree (or bachelor's degree w/ relevant experience) in statistics, sociology, social work, economics, psychology
  • Significant experience managing and analyzing large datasets using Stata software
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Excellent organizational skills and writing skills
  • Ability to both work independently and collaborate on team projects with specific goals and time frames with superior attention to detail

The successful candidate will be a self-starter and able to manage projects independently, must be able to thrive in a flexible work environment and be committed to continued learning and training in areas such as data management and statistical analysis.

  • Experience with FFCWS data

The final candidate will be required to complete a background check successfully.
